So I do sort of think that calling the Hague Convention a form of abduction is a bit blasphemous.
Like too many laws, the fact that it is well-written and designed doesn't prevent politicians, laymen, the media and the horde of "professionals" who make up the divorce and child welfare industries from perverting and controverting its uses and intent to suit their personal agendas, biases and preferences.
Nonetheless it would be a mistake to confuse the perversion with the original.
Creating international treaties is, in a way, like creating computer software, and in that sense the following quote applies:
"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot- proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning."
