.. The Brazilian family of Sean Goldman, age 10, wants the president Rousseff request the assistance of President Barack Obama, with the American court to guarantee the right to visit the child's maternal grandparents. Since he was returned to his father, American David Goldman, in December 2009, the grandmother spoke twice by telephone with the boy.

On Thursday, attorney Charles Nicodemus, argues that the Brazilian family, had a meeting with Minister Maria do Rosário, of Human Rights Secretariat. "There was a whole national efforts for the Hague Convention was fulfilled and the boy returned to his father. But now there is no reciprocity. Sean's grandparents just want the Hague Convention is enforced by the United States and they can visit the grandson "said Nicodemus.

According to the lawyer, the minister pledged to pursue the matter with President Rousseff, who will meet with Obama on Saturday. On Friday, Sen. Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) is expected to address the Senate, defending the right of access to maternal grandparents.

Sean found himself in the midst of an international legal dispute between the father, maternal grandparents and stepfather, Joao Paulo Lins e Silva, after his mother, fashion designer Bruno Bianchi died in childbirth of the youngest daughter. Bruna had traveled to Brazil with the boy, then four years, for a holiday. Upon arriving, she decided to separate from David Goldman.

He has filed suit to recover the child, based on the Hague Convention, which deals with international child abduction. A Brazilian court has granted custody of the child Bruna. With the death of Bruno, grandparents and stepfather fought with Goldman custody of the boy. The American finally won and took the child to live with him in New Jersey.

Just goes to show what you can do with money. I wonder - if I contacted Lindbergh Farias and Maria do Rosario, would they help me get to see my daughter, Rebeca? Interesting that this family is using PT connections as well, given their background :)
