I really hope he has hired one or two bodyguards. Brasil is "terra de niguém" (nobody's land) and if something happens to him, as we all know, nothing is going to happen to the "dark side."

Can the American Consulate in Rio offer some protection? After all, he is in the middle of a battle that is involving the government of both countries. See, if Hillary was going to Rio she would have security, a lot of it.

the simple fact that David was picked up embassy staff means that there is some one watching his back. I know that jpls, his family and company would be dancing in the street if something happened to David, yet they also know that police would rain on their parade as they would be obvious people who got it done. Also in the dateline piece, David had security guards with him then.

I like others are never comfortable with him there, always a little bit more on edge, more anxious, yet we believe that he will be well and looked after. I say a prayer everyday for this case, yet on the occassion when he is there, a special prayer for his safety is always added.

I too worry about David's safety. The LeS/Bianchis seem to be driven by power, control and ego - I don't trust them further than I can throw them.

I thought the embassy security detail was provided last time because Chris Smith was there too, but I could be wrong. I hope I am!

Jonathan:
Great job on getting the NY Times article! I presumed that was on your initiative - if it wasn't, the timing was a pretty big coincidence.

Guys, please chill out. David's got a strong U.S. Embassy security detail following his every steps.

Do not worry about this and let's keep the tone down, please. It's not helpful to him.

Totally agree Roger. I'm brazilian and I know things here are not easy especially in terms of security but c'mon, it's too much. I'm pretty sure David is fine, he's staying in one of the finest hotels in Rio, JW Marriot it's in Zona Sul. The place where rich people lives. Ok I know violence happens even in Zona Sul, but honestly I think you're overreacting.

I agree with Roger, chill out, he's got paparazzi following him around. They're better than security guards. :)

Besides you can bet that the Brazilian government must have their own security people keeping on his security. The LAST thing they need now is for David to trip and fall.

I would totally freak if something happened to David!  I've had that thought all along but was afraid to voice it.  My other concern is when Sean is returned to his father and they come home, they should move.  I remember hearing that David had threatening phone calls after Bruna abducted Sean and one night he found burnt cigarette butts on his doorstep and he had to leave his home for a week, something the FBI requested.  I put nothing past these scums!!!!!!!!!  They're going to be livid when David gets Sean back.

Ha ha!  I love it that when roger is not interpreting the legal system for us, we can count on him to make sure we "chill out"!!!  :)

Roger and Bob are right - we need to be calm to help encourage David all the more!! We also pray for his safety, and this goes hand-in-hand!

He will be fine.  I am happy for him that he has been able to spend time with his son a few more times...it's all he wants
