NY Rep Maurice Hinchey says he will cosponsor H.R.3240
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:17:37 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I can't contain my excitement. I was looking up Facebook pages of our US Reps tonight and I
noticed this little red flag on my page. Maurice Hinchey had commented on my wall. This is
what he said.

Please know that I've already asked to be added as a cosponsor to this bill. I agree that we must do
everything we can to bring abducted American children home.

Can I start doing cartwheels yet? That makes Turner from Ohio and Hinchey from NY saying they
will cosponsor. Hinchey said that he has already asked to be added as a cosponsor. Would someone please
explain the process or procedures of cosponsoring? I'm new at this but I have to admit, I'm excited.  :biggrin

Now the question of the day. Please help!  How do we know that these US Reps will actually cosponsor
H.R. 3240? I checked tonight and no new names have been added. What do I do next?

Thanks for any advise.
Pam

YEA!! the funny thing is I just posted on his wall a few minutes ago .. before I saw your response. I have no answers for you Pam. I've been wondering the same thing. I too have been going into Thomas. gov and see no new cosponsers on there either.

Ok, from my limited experience, I believe the following is correct: the Congressman/woman willing to co-sponsor contacts the Congressman/woman who sponsored the bill and then that person does what is necessary for the new co-sponsor's name to appear on the Thomas register. I will say that Thomas register takes several days to reflect all of the updates.

Congrats on the co-sponsors!!! I'm thrilled also, it gives me more motivation to keep politely prodding my Congressman....

So somehow we need to have Turner and Hinchey contact Congressman Smith, correct? Too bad there wasn't a way of contacting
Congressman Smith to let him know about Turner and Hinchey and he could get their committment and sign them on. I just don't
trust politicians when they say that they are going to do something. deadhorse Sign them up right on the spot. LOL

You mentioned that the Thomas register can be slow. I remember someone here mentioning Congressman Wamp from TN, I think,
was cosponsoring but I don't see his name.

I called Congressman Wamps office and told them I didn't see his name on the Thomas list and she said she would take care of it that day. It showed up a couple of days later.

Did you call the DC office or one of his local offices? Maybe we need to call Turner's and Hinchey's office.
