Several requests have been submitted to Holt's office to work with Smith to amend H.R.3240 to incorporate some of the provisions from H.R.3487 versus potentially dividing supporters between the two.

While there are many good things in Rep Holt's bill, BSH continues to focus our attentions on raising awareness and bipartisan support of H.R. 3240.

Cha-ching!! Put another notch in your belt, Pam! I think this makes you the official BSH Rock Star of the month!

The Daily Journal (Vineland, NJ)
Urge LoBiondo to support child abduction act
http://www.thedailyjournal.com/article/20100310/OPINION/3100346

If you followed the Goldman international abduction story, you know that David and Sean are reunited. The success of the Goldman story has renewed the fight to bring more than 2,800 abducted American children home, including 60-plus children being illegally retained in Brazil.

Last July, U.S. Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey introduced H.R. 3240, the International Child Abduction Act of 2009. It would provide tools to help bring these children home by opening the door for sanctions against countries that do not comply or that ignore the Hague Convention, perhaps accelerating the return of internationally kidnapped children.

The bill would establish an ambassador at large to serve as principal adviser to the president and secretary of state regarding matters of international child abduction. H.R. 3240 would require specific actions by the president in response to any country designated as having a pattern of non-cooperation in returning abducted American children, including economic sanctions if necessary.

H.R. 3240 is waiting for co-sponsors before going to the floor for debate and passage. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-2, has yet to co-sponsor H.R. 3240. Please call and write Congressman LoBiondo to have him co-sponsor and support H.R. 3240 and help bring our children home.

Yea Pam!!! :yeahthat

Unfortunately I don't see it yet in the Philly Inquirer or the Courier post. I'm bummed . But it seems like the local papers down here are getting them published. If that's the case Courier Post is our "local" paper and they should not have a problem with it.

Unless someone tells me otherwise, I'll keep calling Adler's office and keep pushing 3240.

Wow, I checked this morning and didn't see it. I just wish that the Atlantic City Press and Bergen
Record, as well as several more would print them. Seems like I have better luck with the NJ papers
than I do with the NY ones. At least it is something and keeps the issue out there.

Did you read the comment that someone posted? Definitely not a supporter of helping to prevent
international child abduction and bringing the children home. <SIGH>

phillyone, I called Adler's D.C. office today. He wasn't available and left a message. The lady
said that she didn't know his stance or view on H.R. 3240 but would relay my message of
my wanting him to cosponsor.

We need others to call his office as well, even if they don't live in the districe. If you
talk fast enough, you can get them to forget asking you where you live. :)

We'll get him to sign sooner or later.

Are there any other small town newspapers that you know of in his district? Like you said,
perhaps we will have better luck with them.

Hi Pam,

Thanks for calling Adler for me today... I think they're getting sick of hearing my voice.. LOL.

Anyway, I can't think of small town papers here other than the one I get at home (almost a flyer that I throw in the recycling bin before even reading it).. It's called the Cherry Hill Sun and I don't think too many people around here even look at it. (but I could be wrong).

When I get home from work tonight I'll look to see if there is even a website for it.

Also, I think people around here read the Gloucter city (or county) times , and another one is the Burlington County times (but I think that covers Chris Smith and Rush Holt areas) .

The biggest local paper around here is the Courier Post.

Maybe if it's not too much work you can submit your article again to the Courier Post? Maybe they'll listen this time around?

When I get home tonight I'll reasearch more of the local papers around here and let you know.

Hi Pam,

Here's the link to the Cherry Hill Sun:

http://cherryhill.elauwitmedia.com/

Gloucester County Times
http://www.nj.com/gloucester/

Again the Courier Post:

http://www.courierpostonline.com/

Definitely the Courier Post is about as local as we can get around here. If it's not too much trouble, try submitting your article in here again.

I'm on a look out for it!

Anyone else from Jersey know of any other local papers Pam can get her article to?

Thanks philly one,

I'll probably get to them this weekend. Tonight, I sent out a few more to papers in
Paul Tonko's (NY-21) district. One was again the Albany Times Union. Don't
know why they didn't published it the first time.

We also need to work on the Congressman from California that said he would
cosponsor but hasn't yet. Without looking back in the past posts, I think it
was Issa(SP?). If someone would give me a few links to some papers in his
district, I would be more than happy to see if the letter would get printed
on the west coast. I don't remember the member's name who posted about Issa.
The brain has shut down early for the day. <SIGH>

Pam,

Scott Garret from NJ is another one who agreed to cosponsor and I haven't seen his name yet! I'll try and give him a call tomorrow  and get him to sign! I remember seeing something about Issa but don't remember what state he's from.

Remember Scott Garrett. I'll get him on my to do list and try to call him tomorrow to remind him.

I called Garret's office week and left a message asking why his name wasn't on the
list after he had agreed to cosponsor. I forgot what district he is in.

Please do call him.

Good Lord, I'm going to have to start keeping a list or spreadsheet. My brain has
gone into overload.  :biggrin

I hear ya

My brain is getting fried too... I started calling Congressman Rob Andrews too earlier but I figured I'd work on one at a time.. I multitask too much already.

I think the hard work is already done on Mr. Garret and I read somewhere here that he's agreed to sign.. we just have to remind him to do so.

Yes I wish this site had something like a spreadsheet that stayed on one thread with all the reps name and e-mail address, face book contact links, who has contacted who, who has agreed to co-sponsor and has not signed. Like I said before I am a secretary and hate things being disorganized. There is so much wonderful and important data on this forums but you can't lay your finger tips on it easily. JMHO

I'm sure if you created it, one of the administrators would put it in a prominent place on the website. Remember, everyone here is a volunteer or LBP.

luvthelake,

There is a list of Facebook links of some US Reps. Here is the thread.
http://bringseanhome.org/forums/index.php/topic,2949.0.html

I don't have all of them listed, but it's a good starting point. I will be adding more when
I have the time, but if we can get the members on the list to cosponsor, I won't need to add
any others. LOL. Please be sure to post on their pages, even if you are not one of their
constituents. Tell everyone to post on them. We need people to start working on these
reps.

Doesn't congress recess soon for Spring or Easter break? If so, does anyone know when
that is?

Received this response to my email today:

Mr. TomD,

Staci Wheeler has been in contact with Rep. Smith’s office and she followed up with his office today to make sure they submitted the appropriate forms.  It should be any day now, hopefully by next week it will be completed.
