Was Michael Jackson a former President?
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:55:39 AM »
No disrepect here, but honestly, I don't recall seeing this type of wall to wall coverage of any death of a grown man who was not a president. I'm a little irked also over the hypocrosy of the very same journalists who've made a punchline out of MJ for more than 10 years, with endless implications he was a pedophile, turning around and behaving like he was a godlike figure, due the ultimate respect of bumping every other story in favor of this. Is this simply tabloid bloodthirst at its worst?

Frankly, I'm embarrassed that Brian Williams would turn his show into this "fallen hero of war" coverage, replacing his normal sign on for days on end. Then, the Today show is trying to milk at least 3, maybe 4 hours out of this every day since he died.

Of course I want David's story to be front & center every day, but c'mon.

You want an example of the brainwash of this media cover...

My son is 8 years old. He never heard about MJ up to last Friday when MJ died. Today, 3 days later he not only loves MJ and Billie Jean, Beat it, Thriller...  as he is capable to reproduce the music in an incomprehensible language with some english words in the middle.

Now the biggest surprise to me came during the Nightly news tonight when he saw MJ father and started to shout: It is your fault ! It is your fault ! When I asked what did his father do wrong he answered: He kept saying MJ was ugly when he was a kid !!!

From zero to all in 3 days...
DAVID, YOU WERE NEVER ALONE !!!
I AM THRILLED TO SEE YOU BRINGING SEAN HOME !!! BE HAPPY AND HEAL WITH YOUR SON. YOU TWO DESERVE THE BEST :clapping:

I AM PRAYING FOR YOU TO BE THE BEST PERSON SEAN COULD HAVE IN HIS LIFE. GOD BLESS YOU

I think it is very sad.  I'm sure it will be a news headline for quite sometime to come, how long was Elvis in the news after he died?  A good chance to teach our kids what drugs do to you.

You're so right. I'm truly disgusted by this. It's whatever brings in the ratings and sells newspapers/magazines/CDs/DVDs.

Same here, except my son is 5 1/2. He's crazy about Thriller, he wants me to play the youtube video over and over. It's funny when you think of it, he's about the same age I was when Thriller came out.

He did, however, question me how come they're saying it's the same guy singing in Black or White and Thriller...

P.S. This reminded me of a funny story when I babysat a 6-year-old many years ago. I carry a small card with the face of the Christ in my wallet. The kid was playing with the photos in my wallet, and said he knew who that was. "It's John Lennon from the Beatles"
I guess it brings truth to the one who said the Beatles were more popular than God...

All my 4 year-old wants to watch is Thriller.  We did not realize he had woken up from his nap and caught my older son watching it.  It has to be the full length version - not the 5 minute cut.  He gets very upset otherwise.

I may have my opinions/doubts about MJ, but the guy had some moves, and my pre-teen years are full of memories about his Thriller album.

I can not convince either of them that it is the same person who sang 'Black and White' :D

Now you are just making me feel old.....

I graduated high school the year Thriller came out......lol
Lastly - David, there are many prayers across the world going out for you and Sean. When I got my son home - regardless of all the attempts of parental alienation that were forced on him - he said "Father, I always knew you loved me." I am certain Sean feels the same way.

It was not my intention to make anyone feel old. I apologize :)

In regards to the LPs (I don't have mine anymore since I don't have a record player), my son and I were watching the Superman movie (1978) and he asked me how come they were typing and there were no screens... I had to laugh!!!

Not you Liesl, my kids. My youngest knows the word dvd but doesnt know vhs... and I think I might be met with the same blank stares if I pulled out an audio cassette as I did with the LP...

My children make me feel old *lol*

Thriller came out when I was younger than my eldest child is now... I'm just not putting numbers on those ages *lol* ...

My daughter was hired with her theater group to perform the thriller dance at a Holloween party a few years ago.  It was great to watch them all dressed up.
